Intermediate Bookbinding

$65

with Joelle Webber

Calendar May 17, 2023 at 5 pm, runs for 3 weeks

This class builds on skills practiced in Beginner Bookbinding. Continuing to explore sewn books, we will create a Long Stitch Book. A great book for journal writers, the long stitch will introduce students to sewing station jigs, as well as a more complex folded paper cover and sewing pattern. Additionally, learn to bind the basic Japanese book with western materials, while discussing original Eastern tools and materials. If time allows, we will explore other classic sewing patterns. Revisiting the accordion structure, we will bind a basic accordion text with hard covers. This book will then be used as a mock-up of your unique artist book. Come to class with your content, remaining paste papers, and book models, as earlier techniques can be used within this book. If you missed Beginner Bookbinding, please email the instructor at mermainlady@gwi.net

Joelle Webber has been making books for 40 years. She practices her craft at Mermaid Bindery on Westport Island. For more information, visit https://www.mermaidbindery.com/
