Geology of the Midcoast Area
with David Pope
Explore the geology of our immediate area through classroom work and field trips. From glacial sculpting and erratics to the primordial origins of the rock units, Mid-Coast Maine tells many geological stories. This course includes an introduction to rock and mineral identification, plate tectonics, bedrock geology and glacial geology all in local context. Maps, written text and on-line sources will be used. The weekly class schedule and several short field trip dates will be firmed up at the first class. Student interests will guide the course.
David Pope grew up rockhounding in New Hampshire’s White Mountains. He holds both an undergraduate and graduate degree in geology. He recently authored “Geology of the Pemaquid Region, Mid-Coast Maine”.
