Foraging for Wild, Edible & Medicinal Plants
with Tom Seymour
This class consists of a field trip, during which instructor, Tom Seymour will speak on edible wild plants, some of which have medicinal uses as well. He will have live samples of some of the plants and some you will find along the way. All plants shown and discussed are available in the Midcoast region of Maine and none are rare, endangered or threatened (most are common garden “weeds”). By the end of class participants should have a new understanding of and greater appreciation for these common, useful, healthful and tasty wild treats.
The field trip takes place along the nature trail behind Medomak Middle School. Please bring water, good walking shoes and a snack or lunch to class. Participants are invited to stay for a question and answer session after the field trip.
Tom Seymour is a Maine naturalist, Registered Maine Guide, freelance writer and book author. His book credits include Hiking Maine, Fishing Maine, Birding Maine, Forager’s Notebook, Wild Plants of Maine and his most recent, Foraging Mushrooms Maine published in 2017.
