This is an introductory course designed to help you feel comfortable and proficient in one of the USA’s most popular hobbies. The course assumes that the student has only a minimal or no knowledge of birds but wants to acquire skills to identify birds by sight and sound. Students will learn how to find, identify, attract and enjoy the birds of the Midcoast area. The last class session is a walk along a local trail which will help you practice your new bird-watching skills. Recommended for class: a basic field identification guide to the birds of eastern North America and a pair of binoculars. These items are not required, but eventually, you may want to invest in these 2 items. Stan L. LeQuire is a life-long naturalist, guide and outdoorsman. He enjoys teaching sustainable development to college students. In addition, he researches best practices of community-based ecotourism as a model for development.
