This is an introduction to the Ubuntu Linux operating system running the Unity Desktop. We will focus on the GUI desktop environment, but will be learning a few commands at the command line as well. Linux is a free Operating System that is much lighter than Windows and has gained in popularity in the last ten years. It has tons of free software and we will work on installing the OS as well as desktop applications. If you have an 8 GB or higher USB 2 drive or a laptop you would like to instill it on, please bring it to class and you will be able to download and install your own Linux desktop.
Bob Augustine has been using Unix and Linux since the early 2000’s. He was trained in AIX Unix and has since moved on to various versions of Linux. He is currently using Ubuntu Linux with the Unity desktop for all his home computing needs.

Working with Your Woodland
with Morten Moesswilde
This class is for woodland owners and others who want to improve their understanding of the forests they own, manage, or enjoy – and the choices and options they have to accomplish their goals. Woodland stewardship and management includes a wide range of possible activities, from invasive plant control to wildlife habitat improvement to timber harvesting. All of these are more successful with some basic knowledge, adequate planning, and in many cases, working with professionals, e.g. foresters and loggers. Forests take decades to grow, and careful decisions can greatly enhance the many benefits from woodland.
The class consists of evening classes, plus there will be 3 optional afternoon field trips, most likely Thursday afternoons, to provide on-site examples of woodland management. The instructor is Morten Moesswilde, District Forester with the Maine Forest Service, along with several guest speakers.
Morten Moesswilde is the Maine Forest Service District Forester for Knox, Lincoln, Waldo, and Kennebec counties.
