Tai Chi/Qigong Basics (Wednesdays)

This class is for people new to Tai Chi/Qigong. Using slow, fluid and rounded movements you will learn to integrate the basic principles of Tai Chi and Qigong into specific movement patterns or “gestures”. We will coordinate our gestures with breathing patterns and imagery to create a type of moving meditation. This gentle movement activity is accessible to individuals of all fitness levels, and is taught and practiced both sitting and standing. This class is presented as a foundation for more specialized classes offered by this instructor.

Mary Anne Moisan is a Physical and Occupational Therapist with specific training in Tai Chi and Qigong for rehabilitation. Specific certifications include: Balance Enhancement Specialist, Neck and Shoulder Dysfunction, Tai Chi for Pulmonary Health.

Stress and poor posture can wreak havoc on our necks and shoulders, sometimes causing pain and dysfunction. In this class, you will review previously learned gestures and basic principles of Tai Chi/Qigong. You will progress your practice by learning new gestures selected specifically to neck and shoulder care. By the end of the class, you learn to link these gestures together into a flowing “form”, all with the goal of adding ease to our daily lives. This gentle movement activity is accessible to individuals of all fitness levels, and is taught and practiced both sitting and standing.

Join Registered Maine Guide and cooking instructor Chris Toy as he shares some of his favorite recipes, tech-niques, and equipment for camp cooking over charcoal, wood, and gas. He will demonstrate cookstoves for car camp-ing with cast iron as well as trail camping with lightweight backpacking stoves. Recipes for omnivores, vegetarians, vegans, and gluten free diets will be shared as well.

The Feldenkrais Method®

The Feldenkrais Method is a type of neuromuscular re-education that will enable your body to do more than it has in years. These gentle movement sequences will help you work through chronic muscular or joint pain while improving your flexiblility and posture. This is not an exercise class, so loose fitting or stretchy casual clothes are appropriate. Please bring a mat and two thick towels to each class.

Victoria Mansion Christmas and the Old Port

Gather your friends and get some holiday shopping done in the Old Port section of Portland. You’ll have several hours of free time to shop for those unique gifts you need for your unique family members and friends. Have lunch on your own. Enjoy tea at a local tea house. And then we’ll make a stop at the ever popular Victoria Mansion, decorated in style for Christmas.
