Healthy Kids: Child Care Provider Toolkit 1.14.25

This Zoom series provides training on four essential topics for providers who work with parents/caregivers of infants and/or young children: Mandated Reporting: For providers requiring Mandated Reporter Training by the State of Maine. Upon successful completion of the training, the Mandated Reporter Certificate is granted by the Maine Office of Child and Family Services. Infant Safe Sleep: Topics covered include the ABCDs of safe sleep, Maine data, common myths and FAQs and how to support parents/caregivers. Period of PURPLE crying: The Period of PURPLE Crying is an initiative to avoid abusive head trauma (shaken baby syndrome) by educating parents and providers on the normal developmental phase of increased crying in early infancy, action steps, and understanding why shaking a baby is dangerous. Protective Factors: The Protective Factors Framework is a set of strengths-based ideas used to guide programs, services, supports and interventions aimed at preventing child maltreatment and promoting healthy outcomes.

Registered Maine Guide Training

Train to become a working Registered Maine Guide not just a test taker. Learn the skills that guides use daily including: trip planning, species ID, map & compass, coastal navigation, shelter building, separated client searches, cooking, canoeing, snowshoeing, SUP’ng, plus specialty skills for recreation, sea kayaking, tide-water fishing, inland fishing, and hunting. This ten-session hybrid program includes Zoom, optional all-day skill workshops, and homework assignments. All day skills workshops are at an additional cost. Those wishing to test to become a Registered Maine Guide will need to take a first aid and CPR course, not included. No class 2/18/25

Behavioral Health Professional (BHP) Certification Training

Maine Children with intellectual challenges, autism, and mental health disorders, as well as their families, depend on Children's Behavioral Health Services, and there is a huge need in our area! A Certified Behavioral Health Professional (BHP) is an essential member of a child's treatment team and has the chance to have an instant influence while assisting children in reaching their full potential.
We are thrilled to provide this fantastic Blended training to our community. You will be equipped to work with children who need services while preparing yourself for employment with local social service agencies and/or school programs. Start whenever you choose, and go at your own pace. You have 6 months from your registration day to complete the course.
You will complete 12 online modules, then participate in two Live sessions: BHP Live Day (8-9 hours offered in-person or virtually) and Ethical Considerations (2.5 hours offered virtually). You will also receive a stipend to obtain Child & Adult First Aid/CPR certification and free online training in blood-borne pathogens. Our free remote training program can get you certified and started in a career that will change your life in just 40 hours.
Required: Must be a Maine resident and at least 18 years old with a high school diploma or equivalent to become certified. The state also requires that you take an inperson cpr/first aid class.. The cost of up to $100 will be reimbursed once you have completed the American Red Cross or American Heart Saver Course. Woodfords CPR/FA classes in Westbrook, Manchester and Brewer are free for all workforce learners.
Jeffrey Carpenter, Workforce Recruitment Specialist for the State of Maine's Office of Child and Family Services through Woodfords Family Services, is here to help you through this learning opportunity by providing answers to questions and assistance with technical issues, should any arise. He is also a resource to connect you with service agencies once you have completed the training.
