Handbuilt Flower Vase

Adults must accompany all children under the age of 16. This is an easy class for any age! Each student will be given 1.5 pounds of clay and stamps to create a small handbuilt slab flower vase. Students will create at the first session and glaze their work at the second session. After firing, students can pick up their vase the week following the second class. A materials fee of $8 per person is payable to the instructor at the class.

Bridgette Kinney has been a potter for 14 years and is the owner and operator of Dragon’s Breath Pottery in Warren.

Come and make gifts that you can feel good about giving. Start with a pumpkin facial, and then create a moisturizer. There will not be much sun at this time of year, but learn how to make your moisturizer a sunscreen. If none of the herbal remedies suit your fancy, I will show you how to order from the Motives Skin Care line of gifts or Motives Mineral make up. Materials fee of $20 payable to the instructor.

Julia Adams has been a make-up/skin-care consultant for over 10 years, specializing in MOTIVES make-up. She is a teacher by profession and enjoys teaching, creating healthy gifts, and taking adult education classes.


Introduction to Chinese Herbal Pharmacy: Food, Wine, Medicine

“Let food be thy medicine.” Hippocrates is the father of Western Medicine, but this quote is so much more connected to natural forms of healing and understanding the body such as Eastern Medicine. Learn the basics of Chinese nutritional philosophy and using herbs to avoid and recover more quickly from common illness. This laboratory class will explore the energetics of foods and medicinal herbs. Each student will go home with a simple cough medicine (bring a jar) we make and learn how to boost their immunity during the cold and flu season. We’ll eat a special chicken soup full of tonifying Chinese herbs in class. A materials fee of $10 is payable to the instructor the night of class.

Tobey Williamson is a licensed acupuncturist, Chinese herbalist and owner of Good Hearth Eastern Medical Arts in Rockland, Maine. He apprenticed under Dr. Chieko Maekawa and studied Traditional Chinese Medicine at the Institute for Clinical Acupuncture and Oriental Medicine in Honolulu, Hawaii.


Kitchen Cabinet Basics (Monday)

For anyone considering building their own cabinets for kitchen, bath or utility rooms, this course is for you. We will discuss design, materials, construction techniques and hardware choices. No materials needed.

Instructor Rick Gallion has been a professional woodworker for thirty years and has taught many students the craft of woodworking. His new shop is designed as a teaching facility. All classes will be held at the Clary Lake Woodworking School at 777 Gardiner Road (Hwy 126), Jefferson. Class size is limited. Safety glasses provided for each class.

Lighted Christmas Tree

The project for this two week class will be the traditional lighted ceramic Christmas tree. Students will have a choice between two different sizes. The large tree stands 21 inches tall for $65.00 or the medium tree which is16 inches tall for $45.00. Each piece will be glazed either with classic Christmas green or a dazzling white glaze. The materials fee, dependent on tree size picked, will be payable to the instructor the night of the first class. The materials fee includes the piece, glazes, pegs and electrical components, (snow is optional).

Cynthia Dean is the owner of the ceramic shop “Paint It Shoreself,” located in Rockland. She first fell in love with ceramics in grade school and bought her first kiln and molds at 22. Cynthia is certified through Gare, Mayco and Duncan Ceramic Companies and has been teaching ceramics for over 20 years.


Maine Driving Dynamics Course

Maine Driving Dynamics is a Maine sponsored five hour defensive driving course that offers all drivers the opportunity to improve their defensive driving skills. Course includes discussion of collision avoidance techniques, safety issues, driver habits and attitudes, and the basic elements that constantly challenge drivers on Maine’s highways. It is taught by a certified Maine Driving Dynamics instructor in a format that engages students with lectures, videos, and class discussion/participation.

Those completing the course will receive a three-point credit on their driving record and students 55 and older can receive an insurance discount from their insurer. But best of all, we believe that students taking this course will be safer drivers. They will leave the class with a new and unique way of looking at the driving experience.

Making Jewelry with Sea Glass

Calendar Nov 1, 2017 at 6 pm, runs for 2 weeks

Beautiful pieces of natural sea glass are turned into wearable art in this class. Learn some of the basics of jewelry making as you create a pendant and earrings out of sea glass. Sea glass and wire will be provided by the instructor but feel free to bring your own pieces. Each student will need his or her own pair of needle-nose pliers. Please bring a $15 materials fee payable to the instructor the first night of class.

Lynne Thompson has been creating sea glass jewelry since 1996 after moving to New Harbor, Maine.


Medicare and Understanding It

This course will review the following areas: when you are eligible for Medicare benefits; the timeline to enroll for Medicare benefits without penalties; what original Medicare covers and does not cover; and what additional plans are available that work in conjunction with original Medicare. Financial assistance options will also be discussed briefly.

Robert Harvey is a licensed Life and Health agent with offices in Brunswick and Scarborough Maine. He has been assisting clients with reviewing and enrolling in individual health insurance plans and transitioning on to Medicare coverage for the last 10 years.
