Awareness Through Movement - The Feldenkrais Method - Session 2

The Feldenkrais Method is a type of neuromuscular re-education that will enable your body to do more than it has in years. These gentle movement sequences will help you work through chronic muscular or joint pain. This is not an exercise class, so loose fitting or stretchy casual clothes are appropriate. Please bring a mat and two thick towels to class.

Babysitters Training Course - April

Learn the skills and techniques necessary to be a responsible, competent and fun babysitter in a one-day class. This course will cover such topics as: child care essentials, the proper response and handling of emergency situations, behavior management, safety for the sitter, and babysitting as a business. Students should bring a lunch and a snack. Please do not bring any electronics or phones. For students ages 11-14. A certificate is issued upon successful completion of the course. Register EARLY – this class fills up quickly!

Please note: April 19th is during spring break and a no school day for students. Hardship discounts are available, call us.

Basic Bird-Watching

Calendar May 3, 2018 at 7 pm, runs for 6 weeks

This is an introductory course designed to help you feel comfortable and proficient in one of the USA’s most popular hobbies. The course assumes that the student has only a minimal or no knowledge of birds but wants to acquire skills to identify birds by sight and sound. Students will learn how to find, identify, attract and enjoy the birds of the Midcoast area. The last class session is a walk along a local trail which will help you practice your new bird-watching skills.

Stan L. LeQuire is a life-long naturalist, guide and outdoorsman. He enjoys teaching sustainable development to college students. In addition, he researches best practices of community-based ecotourism as a model for development.

Beginners Pottery Class

An introductory class, for creating pots on the wheel or by hand. Students receive 25 lbs of a high stoneware clay to create with. A materials fee of $30 is payable to the instructor at the first class.

Bridgette Kinney has been a potter for 14 years and is the owner and operator of Dragon’s Breath Pottery in Warren.

Beginning Belly Dance

If you have a joy of movement, this dance is for you – come celebrate! Belly Dance, also known as Oriental Dance, is the dance native to the ancient Middle East. Widely spread and integrated by the migrating Rom peoples from India to Spain, it is now commonly practiced world wide. The class will introduce the signature torso movements and rhythms of this dance art and provide a strengthening, full-body exercise, with an emphasis on the hips.

Students will accomplish a simple choreography during the session. Please wear loose, comfortable clothing or dancewear and bring a large scarf for the hips.

Patti Luchetti has studied and performed Oriental Dance for 25 years in Maine, NYC and abroad.

 

Chocolate Extravaganza

Nothing says dessert quite like chocolate! In this one night class we will prepare molten lava cakes, white chocolate macadamia nut cookies and take home a fudge sauce to die for! Bring your sweet tooth, an empty container or two and a friend for a night of sinful decadence.

We will also learn the history of chocolate and how it was used as currency! Recipes and generous samples of all things we create will be distributed. Laughter and brimming bellies guaranteed!

Debra Arter has been cooking international dishes for her family and others for many years.

Creative Writing Workshop - Session 2

This ongoing workshop offers participants an opportunity to get the creative juices flowing, overcome the internal critic, and let heart and soul flow out onto the page! Just as importantly, it also provides a tight knit, supportive community of fellow writers with whom to share the fruits of your labor. The instructor, Elizabeth Potter, will present proven writing prompts and techniques to tickle your muse and coax even the most hesitant voice onto the page.

Elizabeth Potter is a teacher and poet residing in midcoast Maine. Her new collection of poetry “T’ai Chi of Leaves” was released by Moon Pie press in September 2016. Her poems have also been widely published in literary journals both locally and nationally. Elizabeth has been leading creative writing workshops for all ages for the past seventeen years.
